In the fall of 2016, an army of over 100,000 Iraqi soldiers and militiamen mobilize to liberate Mosul, Iraq's second largest city, from the clutches of the Islamic State. Ali Mula, an Iraqi journalist, joins this army of uneasy allies--including Sunnis, Shiites, Christians and Kurds--to find out if they can put aside their sectarian differences and finally free their country from the scourge of ISIS. Along the way to Mosul, Ali encounters an unforgettable group of characters including a Sunni tribal leader who calls himself "the Crocodile", a female militia leader avenging the death of her husband, a canny, Iranian-backed militia leader, a lawyer-turned-warrior, an elite band of ISIS killers, and refugees who survived the brutality of ISIS occupation. As he nears the end of his journey, Ali meets face-to-face with a die-hard ISIS prisoner who reveals the truth behind his nefarious organization. 立意比较传统，但是表现得深刻。连家都支离破碎，就算清除了敌人又有什么用，有了要守卫的事物，战争的意义才不是仅仅只有仇恨。传统个人英雄主义战争片里，主角（们）无双割草，少有带过一笔的也只是把希望落在随手救下的不知名孩子身上，战争英雄的价值观是扭曲的极端的。这是最引起我思考的地方。
今天看新聞得知IS頭目巴格達迪瓜老陳，看這個紀錄片還真是有些應景。紀錄片算是張弛有度。儘管充滿思辨的畫外音有點散漫，但是剛好和極爲殘酷的戰爭現場形成一種對比。如果一個人冷酷無情，真的可以走得更遠嗎？
